CDA supports the neglected senior citizens of society. Many single mothers struggle each day to raise their children and care for their elderly parents. This is a burden that many of our beneficiaries are facing. Even with the income a woman earns through CDA support, it is barely enough to feed half of her family.
A young woman named Bekelech who used to work in our Holeta home told us her story. Her husband left her and their young daughter because they didn’t have anything to eat. Unable to care for her little girl, she moved in with her elderly mother. And she looked for a job that could help her care for her little one and her mother. When Bekelech was hired as a live-in housemother assistant at the Holeta home, everyone liked her for her gentle spirit. However, even though she loved everyone at the home, having no one to care for her mother and her little one at home, it became a challenge for her to work with us, and Bekelech was forced to leave the home to work as a day laborer in order to care for her child and her mother.
There are many more similarly sad stories. A mother responsible for caring for her children and parents is a huge burden even though she loves them both. To ease the burden of single mothers and to help the neglected senior citizens of our society, CDA designed the elderly program sponsorship.
