In addition to the home, CDA supports families in the community who would otherwise be forced to give up their children or abandon them, as they can’t afford to keep them. Our aim is to come alongside families who are living on the edge and facing the stark reality that they may have to relinquish their child and “orphan” them because of their current inability to provide for their basic needs. By supporting the families, CDA enables parents to keep their children and protect them from being orphaned.
One way that CDA supports families is through a program for underprivileged women. Unable to care for themselves or their children, desperate women often abandon their children wherever they can. Due to this ever-increasing problem, literally thousands of children are left orphaned. Hence, CDA designed a program to help vulnerable women obtain jobs by teaching them skills, and in some cases, creating employment for family members in the community. The first training that women in the program received was a skill that helps them make jewelry from clay and paper beads. Each colorful bead is one of a kind, hand-rolled from recycled paper and sealed with waterproof lacquer. No two are exactly alike. Sales allowed women in the program to provide food, shelter, and clothing for their families and send their children to school.
